When your favorite meal becomes your enemy, then you begin to understand and feel the claws of obesity. Obesity and young minds depict cancer that feeds on the personality of a young mind. It is a mental prison not easy to escape. It can have permanent damage on the personality spectrum of an individual. We all know of the health risks associated with certain cancers, heart attacks, and diabetes. However, studies and research fail to dive deeply into the academic impact. After all, education shapes the makers of the future world. Thus no one will want to be on board a bus driven by a mentally challenged persona. It is a cause and effects principal in operation. If ignored, then we are sure to find ourselves under a Hail Mary. This time around, the odds might not be smiling back at us.
Personality Change
Forget about the fairy tales of star signs and temperaments that define an individual’s personality. Obesity can rewrite any of these theories. The first day at school is always a new and glorious experience for any student. The student usually takes time to observe and monitor the unique settings of the environment. A student’s mind will only settle down and embrace peace when it comes to socializing. It is the most critical moment of a student’s life as networks and bonds arise from here. However, it is also where the broth spoils. It starts with a first mock, a second mock, and a continuous mock about their body image. The individual’s personality that used to glow begins to shut down. The student slowly but eventually limits the social circle. Thus obesity and young minds narrative can make an introvert out of an extrovert.
Social Change
The social life of the individual will entail creating cautious boundaries from social opportunities. He or she will start to see every social person as a villain with a friendly mask. The student will restrict himself or herself from social opportunities for fear of being exposed as a fraud. Learning is a traveler’s journey. Without traveling, the intended destination cannot bloom itself to live. The social change will also extend to the family setting. The individual will start breaking the bond with family members that seem more presentable to the public with their physique. Thus obesity can transform a butterfly back to the destructive ways of the Caterpillar.
Emotional Change
An individual without some aspects of emotional intelligence is just a versioned walking zombie. Once a crack to this sensitive vault happens, there is little chance of recovery. It is often through bullying and self-criticism that the damage piles up. The little things that contribute to a learning experience begin to be of less importance. The smiles in achieving a milestone and the excitement of learning from a mistake all suffocate within the individual. They process fear more than love. The fear of people not liking them. The fear of not being good enough. Thus obesity wins again as the ultimate emotional wrecking ball.
Academic Impotence
It is the last step of the ladder, pointing to the ruins of a young mind questing to learn. Without personality, social, and emotional strengths, learning is comparable to moving a mountain. The immature mind settles on a learning environment because the system exists. It is not due to free will. The student sees it as a sentence to serve until a grace period comes to light.
Student Counseling
The well of luck is usually dry at this phase. The parent, guardian, or teacher might notice the oddness of the student and recommend counseling. Such a level of brokenness under advice will process the gesture as an admission to a fact. The fact that they are a fracture, and it took them this long to realize it.
It is, therefore, essential for the parents, guardians, and teachers to be wary and observant of the young minds. Not everything is a growth phase, and not everyone is transitioning. Obesity and young minds is a critical narrative that should receive a better podium. A broken mind in childhood is a fractured hand in adulthood. It will never lay claim of being productive. Therefore, the evils and despairs of obesity will continue to grow fangs if not tamed. Young minds need a helping hand from the very first step. It should not be when they are about to hit rock bottom, for that is where depression picks up.
